There are now 2 different ways that items can be charted in AeronaDental's Charting +.
Incorporated within this new carting system are time-saving features also.
Adding Baselines
There are 2 ways to select and chart baselines in Charting+.
1. The treatment first method
As you are aware, in Classic Charting (original Aerona charting) a line diagram chart, with baselines were added by:
- Selecting the baseline menu at the bottom of the screen
- Selecting which baseline that was required
- Clicking on each tooth to add the baseline
This method still works in Charting+ using the same steps.
2. The tooth first method
To better align with how dentists perform baselines, Charting+ allows users to add baselines by selecting the tooth first. The video below is a demonstration of this.
To chart a baseline using the tooth first method:
- Click the tooth roots, crowns or surfaces that the baseline is to be added to
- Select the baseline group from the pop-up menu
- Select the baseline item from the sub list
As many teeth as required can be selected at once but only 1 type of selection can be active at once. This means that if 3 crowns are selected and a root is chosen, the crowns will be deselected and the chosen root will be selected.
Example of the treatment list
The treatment list is the new pop-up menu that allows for selection of treatments/baselines and shows the tooth history.
Baseline/Treatment Mode
Charting+ has separate modes for baseline and for planning.
To plan a treatment, the chart needs to be in planning mode by default.
If a patient has no items or only has baselines, baseline mode is selected by default (see screenshot below).
If a patient has a treatment planned then planned mode is selected by default (which is presented under the Baseline icon, shown in the screenshot above).
In baseline mode, baseline and completed treatments are shown but planned is not shown.
The treatment list will only show baseline items and not treatment items.
In planning mode, baseline and completed treatments are shown but are faded out, and planned treatments from the selected treatment plan are shown and remain unfaded. (See screenshot below as an example of this layout).
NB: The treatment list will only show treatment items and not baseline items.
Planning Treatments
How can I plan and complete chartable treatments within Charting+?
The treatment first method
In the original Aerona line diagram chart, treatments were planned by:
- Selecting the menu group from the top of the screen
- Changing the care plan tab as required
- Selecting the chart group of the treatment
- Selecting the required treatment
- Clicking on each tooth to plan the treatment
This method still works in charting+ using the same steps.
The tooth-first method
The tooth-first method for baselines also works for planning treatments.
Below is a demonstrational video showing how to plan chartable treatments.
To plan a treatment:
- Select the teeth for the treatment
- If required, change the care plan from the drop down list
- Select the menu group, from the list on the left
- Select the chart group
- Select the treatment item
Once the treatment is planned, the other actions such as 'completion', 'approval' and 'deletion of treatment are still performed the same as the original method i.e. selecting the treatments in the treatment table and clicking the relevant button presented above.
Treatment Filtering
In order to reduce the chances of mistakes and to make it quicker to locate items, Charting+ filters the list based on 2 factors:
- which part of the tooth was selected
- what has already been charted on the tooth.
These filters apply only to the tooth first method of charting and can be overridden using the treatment first method.
Which part of the tooth was selected
There are 3 different parts of the tooth that can be selected, the crown, the root and the surface.
If a chartable item only applies to part of the tooth, then that part of the tooth must be selected.
- Only surface treatments such as fillings and inlays are shown when the surface is clicked.
- Treatments that apply to the crown such as whitening and bridge only show when the crown is selected.
- Treatments that only apply to the root such as root canal and implant are only shown when the root is selected.
- Treatments that apply to the full tooth such as extraction or missing are shown if the crown or root is selected.
What has previously been charted
Applying items that affect the state of the tooth such as root remaining or extracted, change what can be done on the tooth.
Some items require another item to have been charted first and others cannot be charted after certain items have been applied.
- If root remaining has been applied, treatments that require the crown such as fillings, are no longer shown on the list.
- Items that cannot be applied while the tooth crown is present, such as dentures, are shown in the list after root remaining is applied.
- If a tooth has been extracted then treatments on both the crown and the root are filtered out such as an artificial crown, root canal and root filling.
- Items that require the root to be missing such as implant, become available after the tooth is extracted.
- Applying an implant restores the root thus allowing treatments that require a root, such as a crown, to be applied at an additional stage
